I had recently bought a 60CSx by Garmin and it is one of the best GPS navigators in the market. My old navigator was old school anyway so I had to buy a new one.
The 60CSx has practically everything that you can ask for. It weights 7.5 oz with batteries and has highly sensitive, insanely accurate GPS receiver to track your exact location- even if you are in thick forests or deep canyons. And it has a brilliant TFT color display that works even in bright sunlight.
It came with a 64MB card for storage of map data. Of course if you want more storage, you'd have to buy another card and that's what I did.
It has an altimeter barometric electronic compass which will accompany you on both land and sea.
Coming back to the memory card, you can buy pre-programmed Garmin cards that come with nautical charts, city streets and topographic maps.
The 60CSx is compatible with almost all MapSource products by Garmin, like City Navigator, BlueChart, U.S. Topo, and U.S. Topo 24k. This device comes loaded with the auto-route basemap of America, providing automated routing abilities, covering tide data, highways and exits. It also has a preloaded database of marine points.
And if its turn-by-turn guidance that you want, you won't be disappointed. You can get directions as you drive, while an integrated trip system tells readings of stopped time, odometer, overall average, moving average, max speed, total time and much, much more.
It has 256 colors, and a 2.6 inch TFT display that is made to present trip and mapping information accurately and clearly in all lighting conditions. And its case is rugged too - it is water resistant and conforms to IEC standards (60529 IPX7). That means you can plunge it into water to the depth of 1 meter for 30 minutes and it will still work!
When you use twin AA alkaline batteries with it, you will get about 20 hours battery life. The altimeter barometric system of this device gives automated pressure trend recording, along with ascent/descent rate, current elevation, total ascent and minimum/maximum elevation. Its electronic compass permits you to get precise heading even as you stand still.
Another important feature of this device is the cool 10,000 point automated track log. It has 20 saved tracks of 500 points each. So you can retrace the trail in both ways. And then there is a double position display mode. If those aren't a lot of features, I don't know what are.
Its processor is really fast and allows auto routing, audio alerts and turn by turn directions as you use MapSource software, which is optional. It can be stored on the 64MB card that comes with the unit.
You can quickly download information with the help of USB port interface. And you can use the dedicated serial port to share navigation details with plotters, repeaters, and autopilots.
It is highly ergonomic and you can use it easily even if your fingers are wet or cold.
Well these are all the features I could find, but there are even more. I'm still discovering new things with my new GPSMAP 60CSx.
